By now, we have received the Urdd membership fees. Urdd and Dragon Sports activities will be arranged for the children (on Wednesday afternoons, in all likelihood) – details to follow!

The ‘Recorder Club’ will be held on Monday afternoons from November 16th on.

The Zoo Lab science workshop will visit the school on Wednesday, November 18th, with the Techniquest science workshop visiting the school on Tuesday, November 24th.

Children from Llydaw class will visit the Gwynedd Outdoor Education Centre, Rhyd Ddu on Tuesday, December 1st – details to follow!

The magician Howard Hughes will entertain the children on Friday morning, December 11th.

We hope that the children from Peris class will have a Christmas journey through woodland – details to follow!

We thank Mrs Nia Oliver for her caring leadership as Headmistress In Charge during the last four terms. We will be welcoming a new headmaster, Mr Garem Jackson, in September.


We are saying goodbye to ten children from Year 6 this term and we wish them well in their new Secondary Schools. We are also saying goodbye to Mrs Jen Roberts after fifteen years as a teacher at the school, and we wish her well in her new work in September.

Message from Mrs Roberts: Thank you so much for all the cards, presents and kind words. I have been very happy at Ysgol Cwm y Glo and I have many good memories of children, parents and staff which will remain with me for ever. I wish you and the school all the best for the future.



We thank Miss Jones for taking eight pupils to stay at Glanllyn, Bala for a weekend of activities. Eveyone enjoyed themselves, but all were very tired on their return!


Years 3 and 4 went to Cae'r Gors for an Open Air Course. We thank the parents who came to help on the trip - everyone thoroughly enjoyed the visit.


Congratulations to these pupils from Year 6 for gaining Water Skills certificates.



The mosaic on the school's external walls is nearly finished! Thank you to Heather Lowe and the children in the Juniors for their excellent ideas and hard work. They have turned their attention now to the Reception area.

Thank you to the PTA and our hardworking parents for the bags of soil and plants. The children enjoyed planting them and are very interested in their progress.


We thank Year 6 for holding a Book Fair. They sold over £200's worth of books and earned a ood commission for the school.

Thank you all very much for coming to support the May Summer Fair. It was good to see so many of our ex-pupils popping in too.

Thank you to Year 6 for preparing fund raising games to play - there was plenty of fun to be had!
The biggest Thank You goes to the hard working parents that arranged and prepared for the day - the staff here really appreciate all your hard work.

Thank you to everyone who came to Morrisons to pack bags on 16/5/09. Your hard work raised £500 for the PTA!

The Juniors are all working hard to create a mosaic mural with Heather Lowe. We are all looking forward to seeing it when it is completed!

A big Thank You to everyone who came to school to help fold Eco'r Wyddfa, the local community newspaper. It was a great opportunity for the children to see how a newspaper is put together.

26/3/09 After the rain stopped we managed to hold various activities, which included sponsored skipping and bike riding, to raise mony for school funds. Thank you all for your support.

Three members of the School Council attended the Healthy Schools Conference at the Galeri in Caernarfon. They had great fun trying out the keep fit equipement for children.

Three children went to the Delwedd office in the Galeri to see how Ysgol Cwm y Glo's website is updated. We thank Mike Roberts and his staff for the welcome.

Congratulations to these two children for coming First in the Art and Photography competitions held by the Urdd in Eryri. Best of luck now in the National Urdd Competitions in Cardiff!

Ceri Mair Roberts from Ysgol Brynrefail spent a week on work experience with us at the end of the Spring Term. She had the opportunity to spend time in each class and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Best of luck in the exams Ceri!

At the end of term we were sad to say goodbye to Miss Ceri Williams who had worked as a classroom assistant while Wendy Roberts (Miss Smith) was on maternity leave. We thank her very much and we wish her the best in her new position in Bangor.

Folk Dancing - Congratulations to Marchlyn Group for coming Second in the Urdd County Eisteddfod i Bangor on Saturday 14/3/09.

Congratulations also go to Glaslyn group for coming Second in the Area competition (Under 12) and to Llydaw Group who also came Second (Under 10's). There will be an opportunity to see them dance once again in the Easter Concert.


We had a great deal of fun on Red Nose Day 13/3/09. The School Council had arranged activities to raise money - dressing up, decorating biscuits, telling jokes, hunting for red noses around the school and a Draw Something Funny competition. We raised £150 for Comic Relief - excellent!

On 11/3/09 Marion Hughes came to talk to the Juniors about her visit to Kotayam in India. She had delivered letters from our pupils to a school there, and she returned with letters and small gifts from the Kotayam children. We found the photos of their school very interesting and are going to kep in touch with them.

On 10/3/09 Year 5 and 6 visited the Galeri for a Chemistry Science Show Fflach Bang! It was an interesting and fun way to learn facts.

On 26/2/09 Catrin Williams and Hugh Warren came to school to hold a Jazz / Art workshop which Years 5 and 6 thoroughly enjoyed. Visit the Album to see the photos.


Congratulations to these two boys for being chosen to be part of the Criw Celf scheme for children showing artistic talent.  They will be taking part in various Saturday workshops throughout Gwynedd during this year.

The school was closed because of snow on Tuesday February 3rd, but we had plenty of fun the following day!

Dennis Davies came from the NSPCC to give a talk about the society's work. We are collecting money for the NSPCC by doing a Sponsored Spelling event.
Congratulations to these pupils on their success in Cyngor Gwynedd's competition to draw pictures for their Save Energy calendar.
We have elected a new Eco Council and here are it's members.

Thank you to the hard working PTA for arranging a Christmas Rafflle. Thanks also to all the parents who contributed items. The staff here really appreciate everything you do for the school.
Remember to keep an eye out for the pupils singing a carol on the big screen on the Square in Caernarfon on December 22 and 23!
On Thursday, December 11, pupils in Peris class were sad when they had to say Goodbye to Miss Davenport. She had been on Teaching Practice with the class for nine weeks and the children had enjoyed being in her care. Visit the Album to see them prepare for Jac's, the blackbird's party.
Thank you to PC Neil Williams for coming to school to hold sessions with all the pupils. The Infants and Marchlyn class looked at drugs, and Llydaw class had a session on alcohol.
Congratulations to these two girls for coming first in the Llanrug and Cwm y Glo Eisteddfod.
Llydaw class visited Cae'r Gors to see what washday was like in Victorian times. Take a look in the Album to see what they got up to.

November 14th was Children in Need day. We had a lot of fun selling cakes and toys, wearing pyjamas and fancy dress, and playing games. We raised £200 for Children in Need - well done children, and thank you to the School Council for arranging the day. Photos in the Album.

We have collected boxes for Operation Christmas Child once again and we thank every family who contributed.

 

The Reception class have been busy tasting different foods with Miss Jones.

 

Marchlyn class visited the Museum at Bangor to see an interesting exhibition of the ties the area has had with Liverpool over the years. They then had a lively poetry workshop with Karen Owen. Visit the Album to see the children.

The children from the Reception right up to Year 6 took part in the Thanksgiving Service at Tabernacl Chapel. We thank everyone who was able to join us and who contributed towards the collection for the Air Ambulance. We also thank the Chapel officers for being so welcoming. Marchlyn class took part in an Art workshop with the artist Karen Jones when they visited Cae'r Gors. Have a look in the Album to see them at work.

Becky Williams and Tracy Griffith came from Ysgol Brynrefail for a week of work experience. Thank you girls – the children will miss you.
The elections for the School Council have been held and these are the new members of the Council.

We welcome Mrs Diane Roberts as our new Lunchtime Supervisor. The children already know 'Auntie Diane' as Ffion's mother and we hope she will be very happy with us here at Ysgol Cwm y Glo.

Friday, September 19th was a sad day at Ysgol Cwm y Glo when we said goodbye to Auntie Margaret. She has looked after the children every lunchtime for 28 years! Thank you for everything Auntie Margaret, and remember to call in and see us.
